escapades of geronimo, part 1

suzanne brought geronimo home the thursday before christmas. from what we know, geronimo had been a "pound dog" - he was transferred to the spca where she got him from another pound. i have a feeling he's spent the better part of his life in pounds. i think he was just too much for anyone to handle. and i think that's what's made me, the rebel, all the more determined to keep him! (a friend at church compared me to the apostle simon the zealot--but that's a whole'nother blog post....!)

(he has long since eaten the sleeping bag along with several sheets & blankets that were given to him for his "bed"! he doesn't use bedding anymore!!!! i'm so glad we didn't buy an expensive pet bed!!!)

the 1st thing geronimo did when he came in the house was BOUNCE all over checkin' it all out. which was fine. it was a new place for him, he needed to check it out. 5 minutes into his visit, he walked over to the christmas tree & pee'd on it! and on all the christmas presents under it!!!!! luckily, there were only a few............1 for my best friend joyce and 8 cute little bags i made for my sunday school class. everything had to be re-wrapped! i had to make 8 more cute little bags!!!! i washed the tree & tub it was in with vinegar water & put no gifts under the tree. a couple days later he did it again! out went the tree skirt & out came more vinegar! he did eventually stop pee'ing on the tree (i think -- i hope!!!!)

that night suzanne & her friend benita didn't sleep because geronimo wouldn't let them. he wouldn't lay down or even sit down, he was like a pinball! friday 1st thing on our agenda was to go get a crate! didn't have too much trouble getting him into it & he stayed in it all that night with no problems. funny thing tho ----- we had the crate in the living room. suzanne was gone & i needed to run to walmart for something before my cousin came over. i'm in walmart for 5 minutes & i get a phone call. i looked at my phone & it was an 800 #. normally i wouldn't have answered, but i'm glad i did this time!!!!! it was my alarm company!!! they said the alarm went off because of the motion detector and they wanted to know if anyone was home. i said, "no, i'm at walmar...............oh my goodness! it must be the dog!" the lady said, "you have a dog? there's nothing in your file about a dog." i said, "yes, my daughter came home from school with a dog; it's in a crate in the living room & i completely forgot about the motion detector & i set the alarm when i left!" the lady said, "well, if you're sure that's what it is, we won't sent a cop out to check, but you'd better move the crate to another room!!!!"

saturday we were having christmas over at grandma & pa pa's house. suzanne left for their house at 10 am. i left at 11. geronimo had been outside, fed, outside again & put in his crate when i left. suzanne went shopping with her dad that evening. i got home at 7pm. when i walked into the dark house, i was met at the garage/laundry room door by the dog! the dog who had been locked in his crate when i left. i said, "well, how did you get out?!"

and then i turned on the light.

the house looked like it had been ransacked by burglars!!!! burglars who pooped all over the place! burglars who ate everything they could get their paws on!! burglars who ate books & knocked things off window sills & counters & tables! burglars who beat & pounded on the walls of the crate til they just knocked a wall down!! it was a wire crate & the sides were held together by clips. i guess for the "normal" dog, these would hold. NOT FOR THIS DOG!!!! HE'S NOT NORMAL!!!!!

there used to be greenery/garland & decorations on that windowsill/window seat in the dining room

yes, that's dog poop! don't act like you've never seen it before!!!! i've spared you the rest of it!!!!

this used to be a stuffed dog i had made our of one of my mom's old chenille bedspreads. i had made each of the kids one as a keepsake. he ATE the dog. luckily he decided not to eat the bear!!!

these pictures don't even show 1/2 the "damage"!!!
for about 15 minutes (after i sent him to the back yard), i just stood there looking at the mess. he had pooped & pee'd on the rug in front of the couch. he had tracked it all over the tile floor (thank goodness i have tile floors!!!) i called suzanne & said, "i just got home, where are you?" she said, "shopping at target!" i said, "maybe you should cut your shopping trip short & come home." she said, "IS GERONIMO OK?" i said, "geronimo's ok, the house is not."

that includes putting the crate back together with about 52 hundred zip ties!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

there's no way he's gonna knock those walls down & get out again!!!!!!!

i just rolled up the rug & threw it in the trash -- there was no way i was gonna leave that there for him to think that was his potty-ing spot. i had to throw a bunch of other stuff away -- that was just the beginning of my "simplifying" things around the place!!! over the next few days/weeks, things were taken off counters, tables, windows, walls; furniture was rearranged & pushed up against the walls so he couldn't run a racetrack behind them. the knobs were taken off the stove because he would turn on the gas!!!! people would come over & ask if i was moving because all the "pretties" were gone & the place looked bare!!!!!

AND HE'D ONLY BEEN HERE 2 DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"why am i outside? am i in trouble?"

who is this dog i'm living with???????

yes, i have a dog.

i didn't want a dog.

now i don't want to not have a dog.

i think i've lost my mind!!!!!

we used to have a dog. had her for 15 years. she was a crazy, hyper puppy that never grew up. until the very end. i think she began to lose her sight a little & she had some other health problems that developed, but she was still pretty chipper. when i got sick in 2011 she went to live with suzanne's dad because she was just too much for me to take care of at that time.

suzanne loved to do crazy things with that dog!

suzanne has been away at college for 3 years. she can't have a dog at college but has wanted one very badly. she had her dad almost talked into one before thanksgiving but he had a fire at his house & is living in an apartment til it's repaired, so no dog.

well, that didn't stop her! the little stinker went to the spca in dallas & got herself a dog! a pitbull puppy. she soon realized that wasn't the dog for her & returned it. she had 30 days to get another or "lose" her money. she emailed me & asked if she got a dog, could it live at my house til it could go to her dad's house. my 1st thought was, "no dog! lose your money & learn a lesson!" some strange thing came over me & i said yes! now, i hate dog poop in the yard & i hate having to pick it up. i was rather attached to having a clean yard & being able to come & go as i pleased without having to worry about not being able to pick up & go away whenever i wanted to! i was very glad to not have to sweep the floor of dog hair every day. i liked having a clean house!

i claim insanity. or the fact that i was just overcome by his cuteness!!! dang my kids for falling in love with cute dogs!!!! that's how we got kristi! i was DEAD set against having a dog. suzanne's dad & brother were supposed to go to the hardware store & ended up at the pet store. they called & said, "just come look at her, she's so cute." i tried to stand my ground -- "NO....i'll be the one having to take care of it & potty train it... no dog!" we met them at the pet store & the darn dog was just too cute!!! yes, i had to take care of her & i was the one taking her out at 2am. she was 8 weeks old when we got her & suzanne was just turning 5.

so suzanne went back to the spca & got THIS dog.

this dog is just too dang cute too! and he's a handful!!! 2 handfuls!!! he's a shepherd/siberian husky mix. he's big, he's strong, he's smart, he's destructive, he's................GERONIMO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the pound named him dylan. he's definitely NOT a dylan!!!! he's a GERONIMOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

or a PINBALL! cuz he's like ping! ping!!! ping!!!!! all over the house!!! he was about 17 months old when she got him, so he'll be about 2 around suzanne's birthday. maybe he'll calm down some by then............????????????

(one of the FEW times he's SAT STILL in the house!!!)

i'll be back over the next few days with "escapades of geronimo"!! stay tuned!!!!

my pallet sign

made this one for me!

i've been thinkin' for a long time about what to put on this sign. i have so many favorite quotes & bible verses. i have a lot of my very very favorite bible verses written on my walls, so i didn't really want to duplicate them on the sign. i did put my all-time favorite verse (which is also my favorite hymn) on --- "have faith in God". and i put one of my favorite words -- hope.

and i painted my "trademark sam elliott mustache" on just to make me smile!!!

tomorrow i'll tell y'all all about the DOG!

ok, if you know me, you KNOW when i've got a project in mind, sometimes i've just GOTTA do it!!! and if you read my #2 post for today, you know i had a project in mind! and it was too early to go to bed. and i'm not reading a book right now. (yes, i could read my bible -- and i will!) AND i said i'd post the sign as soon as i had it done.

well, it's done!!!! in fact, the paint's still wet in this picture!!!!! i'm debating whether i'm going to stain it or leave it "bright white" -- what do you think i should do?

it'll help me remember that not only is God's love enough, but GOD is ENOUGH. He's all i need!!!

2nd post of the day!

enjoy it, there may not be another for a few days!!!!

i was going to write about these things in my earlier post today, but i guess i was so excited about the bookshelf that i forgot to include them!! i'm exhausted & have to go to work tomorrow but it's too early to go to bed, & too late to start anything new, so i guess i'll write blog posts!!!

do you like the big gash i got on my hand today? it actually looks worse in person!!! i didn't get it from using any power tools....i got it from playing frisbee with the dog! he "reached" with his paw for the frisbee but got my hand instead. it's really hard to take a picture of your right hand with your left hand when the button on the camera is on the right hand side!!!!

i guess i'm going to have to get a real dog house because rain comes in the crate & he keeps taking the "roof" off! in this picture it's raining & he's just standing there!

later when it rained real hard, he had the sense to lay under the picnic table!!

it's been awhile since i posted about a proverbs31woman devotional. there have been a lot that have been relevant, but this one today hit the nail on the head. dead center! last night after i got in bed i was praying & telling God that i felt so far away from Him. i even said, "God, i KNOW i'm yours, but ARE YOU THERE? i feel so alone. i feel like you're no where near me. i feel like you're not hearing my prayers." i immediately realized that HE is. He reminded me that He's answered a lot of prayers, very recent prayers. like when there was no money for gas or food, & i prayed that somehow he'd provide just enough, He provided ABUNDANTLY. He reminded me that He is there for me. always. even when i don't feel it. and then this morning He gave me this devotional as another reminder. go here to see the devotional.

i've been thinking of a special pallet project. it's been in my mind for a long time. it has a lot to do with what God & i were talking about last night. i'll post it as soon as it's finished!

enjoy your week &

1 pallet project DONE

i bought this bookshelf a couple years ago. it had a cheap cardboard back that i knew i didn't want to use, so i left it off. i had the idea a long time ago to make a back out of pallet boards. i FINALLY got it done today!!! i LOVE it!!

now i'm waiting for some white paint to dry so i can get started on my next pallet project!
