a comment about a comment

"anonymous" posted this comment on my post about the birthday card i made:

"This guy sounds like a great catch!

Any use of the card should be credited to him and possibly given royalties should this turn out to be a "Hallmark" moment..."

several people post anonymously here, so i'm not sure who wrote this, but it sure sounds a lot like something "HE" (the smartest man in the world) would say!!!!

and i know HE read my blog, because he asked for the address.

when i read this comment, lots of funny comments popped into my head, so i decided to "comment about the comment"!'

1. this comment sounds like one coming from an accountant!
2. this guy might be a great catch, but if i caught him, i'd be considered a cougar! HA! ME! a cougar!!! now that's funny! nope, i like my men like i like my junk: "old & rusty"!!!!!
3. however, i've realized that all the single guys at my church (all whopping 3 of them!) don't seem to want to be caught!! they're all pretty fast runners!!! so maybe i should run in the opposite direction & then they'll catch me!!!

after bombarding you with noxious weed pictures, i thought you might like to see some pretty-grass pictures!!

here's the front yard:

(ignore the long grass in front of the landscape bricks --- one day it will be weed eated, or cut with scissors!!!!)

oh, what's this???? a noxious weed, according to the texas roadside vegetation manual!!!! morning glory vine! it grows like crazy in this one corner of my flowerbed. it chokes everything & i'm constantly trying to pull it off & out by the roots, but it keeps on growing. pa pa loves morning glories, & he TRIES to grow it but can't!!!! i'd GLADLY give him this if it would be gone from my yard!!!!

why didn't i think of this??!!!

joyce sent me this link. she said it might be something we could try at church to get more people to help with the flowerbed weeding!!!!

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2012/07/15/farm-in-idaho-hosts-weed-dating-for-singles/

(if the link doesn't work, copy & paste into your browser)

well, it's worth a shot!!!!!!!

this evening we weren't able to get the weed eater problem solved. "amwacs" did manage to get my lawnmower wheel that fell off yesterday back on though!!! and he checked out my circuit breaker box which led us to come up with another project! but i guess i'll be going back to the store with the weed eater in hand. they'd better not give me any problem returning it!

gotta run-----gotta go look for the receipt!!!

(sorry for the lack of pictures -- i sort of overloaded you yesterday!!! and i forgot before he got here to take a picture of the wheel that fell off the lawnmower. it DID cross my mind to take blog pictures while we were fixing it, but i think "amwacs" would have frowned upon the idea!!!!!)

when you have free time, what do you look up on the internet?

this is what i look up!!!!

i read the "texas roadside vegetation management manual":

Section 14: Noxious Weeds and Pests on the Right of Way
Anchor: #i1023211
Overview
A variety of plants are considered pests along the highway right of way. Pest plants are generally those species which pose safety, maintenance or public relations problems for the department.

The predominant pest species in Texas include Johnson grass, Giant Ragweed, Musk Thistle, Sunflower, Field Bindweed, Bermuda grass, Mesquite, Huisache, Retama, Georgia Cane, Kochia, Russian Thistle, Switchgrass, Turnip Weed, Morning Glory Vine, Western Bitterweed, African Rue, Cattails, Saltcedar, Wildoats, Jointed Goatgrass and Kudzu.

Some of these are native to Texas. Others are introduced species which have become naturalized, taking advantage of environmental disturbance to invade and become established in the right of way. Minimizing disturbance caused by construction or maintenance activities is the best way to reduce the spread of such species. However, once these species become established in an area of the right of way which must be maintained, properly selected and applied herbicides may be used to control the pest and to re-establish desirable vegetation.

This section addresses important characteristics of the major pest plants of concern to the department, and the recommended methods for their control.

and dictionary.com:

nox·ious
[nok-shuhs]

adjective
1.
harmful or injurious to health or physical well-being: noxious fumes.

2.
morally harmful; corrupting; pernicious: a noxious plan to spread dissension.

as far as i'm concerned, my backyard is MY right of way! it shouldn't be filled with NOXIOUS weeds! but right now it is. and that is injurious to my health & physical well-being. i have had some morally harmful thoughts & words about these noxious weeds!

(warning - lots of pictures!!!

ya can't even see the "flowerbed"!!!

so these are the things i'm needing today:

a man with a tractor

or a goat! a goat would be much easier to handle than a weed eater!!!

but today i took things into my own hands. literally!!!

i used this to cut the noxious weeds in the backyard.

shoot, i don't use it to cook with, so i might as well put it to good use somewhere! need to get my money's worth out of it!!!! didn't buy those knives just for decoration!!!!!

i grew up on a farm, baling hay. no different from what i did today! except back then we used a tractor & a mower & a baler. today i used a kitchen knife, a rake & a garbage bag!!

i want a SICKLE. it's a long handle with a VERY SHARP curved blade at the end. we didn't have a weed eater when i was growing up on the farm. we had a sickle. my grandpa taught me how to use the sickle. i WANT a sickle. but you can't find one anywhere.

i looked up SICKLE on the internet. they've got all kinds of halloween sickles with blood all over them. but no grass/weed cutting sickles.

what's the deal?? doesn't anyone use a sickle anymore for cutting grass? are they just used to kill people???? but my search isn't over. i WILL FIND me a sickle!!! and y'all just watch out, cuz i KNOW HOW TO USE ONE!!!!!!!

there were lots LOTS of mosquitoes in the grass. and ANTS. seems like ants like to make GIGANTIC mounds in the center of these beautiful grass fountains noxious weeds!!

i've received lots of emails & private messages from some of you wondering if "amwacs" (a man with a circular saw) is still around. yeah, he's around. he's spending most of his time driving my barbed wire all over creation in the back of his pickup truck!! we see each other at church. in fact, today we had a quite lengthy discussion about noxious weeds!!!! he spent all day yesterday mowing "goat grass" in the pasture at the farm. with a tractor. goat grass isn't good for cows. it's noxious! i guess you can't cut it with a kitchen knife. "amwacs" told me i should get a "weed cutter" -- he described it in detail. told me exactly how it was shaped & how the "blade" was "serrated"

--- yeah, yeah, i got one of those at lowe's on friday (the day i took a vacation). i returned it to lowe's on saturday!!! the dang thing didn't CUT the weeds, it just mashed them. (it was just like the 2nd picture)

well, my brazilian-made kitchen knife with the 8" blade did JUST FINE!

WOULD YOU JUST LOOK AT THAT BEAUTIFUL YARD!!!!!!! can you believe just a few hours ago you couldn't even see the "flowerbed"?!?!?!?!!!!

i'll bet "amwacs" would have a fit if he knew i cut the noxious grass on the football field city-pasture in the backyard with a kitchen knife.

but heck, a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do!

(and now i have a noxious rash all over my arms. great! and if i die of west nile virus, i'd like a closed casket please. well, no casket. i'd like to be cremated. don't go to any unnecessary expense.)

i'm frugal alive & i'll be frugal dead!!!!!!
a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do!!

guess what?! i just got an email from "amwacs" -- he's coming over tomorrow after work to check out my weed eater issue!!! how about that?! ...and once again, i didn't even have to ask!!!

smacked me right between the eyes!

tonight at prayer meeting someone said, "we need to remember that we've always got something to praise God for, even in the bad times."

smacked me right between the eyes!!!!

i'm going through one of those "bad times" right now.
i need to remember all the things i've got to praise God for.

like the fact that my backyard doesn't look like it did one year ago!

(and one of those pictures was taken in MAY!!!)(i need to go take a picture of the lush green-ness of the weeds grass now!!!!)

the most important thing to praise Him for is that He's right here with me, wanting me to lean on Him & trust Him.

so now i'm going to go spend some time with Him & tell Him how much i love Him.

i hope you will too.

i stamped a card tonight - or - what every woman in history has wanted to do.....

(front)

(inside)

it's a birthday card for a friend at church. this card just POPPED into my head the other day while i was floating in the pool. this is what inspired this card:

there's a guy at church that i've been trying to get to help with VBS for.ev.er. shoot! i've been trying to get him to help with anything & everything for.ev.er. he's an accountant & doesn't like to get his fingernails dirty!!!!!

so every year i ask him "are you going to help with vbs?" his answer every year is "NO!"

this year i asked him "are you going to help with vbs?" his answer was "i was thinkin' about it."

OMG!!!! pick me up off the floor!!!!

he said "what do i have to do?" i said "help me in crafts." he said "what do i have to do?"

i said "whatever i say!"

so a week goes by.

i asked him if he turned in his vbs worker registration sheet. he says "no, i need one." so i gave him one i had in my bulletin. later i think to myself, "he's not gonna fill it out. i should have filled it out for him & turned it in."

well, my friend joyce (the church secretary) emails me a couple days later & says "'br@n*' turned in his vbs worker registration sheet. & for "what area do you want to work in" he put an * and down at the bottom of his form he wrote "*apparently i'm to do whatever dorothy erdely says."

WOW!!!!!! after all these years, i've FINALLY TRAINED A MAN TO DO WHATEVER I SAY!!!!!!

and apparently the rest of the men at church are catching on too......yesterday after potluck, the men were putting away the tables & chairs & one of them came up to me & said "do you need the round tables put out for the ladies' tea this weekend?" i said "well we were going to put them up friday, but if you men are willing to do it, great!!! put them up!" one of the little old ladies saw them putting up the round tables & she asked one of them, "why are you putting up the round tables?" he said
"BECAUSE DOROTHY ERDELY SAID TO!" she just looked at him & said "oh." !!!!!!

so girls, my job is done. i have accomplished what every woman in history has wanted to do! there's just one more man that i need to train & then i will really be done & will be a success!!! but he subscribes to that old saying "you can't teach an old dog new tricks"!!!!!!

...sigh.....

some people would never attempt this

especially when wearing a WHITE LACY T-SHIRT/TANK TOP!!!

BUT I WOULD!!!!!!!!

it's a sunday morning, i have 6 kids in my sunday school class (ranging in age from 2 to just turned 6), i don't have a helper, i'm wearing a white lacy t-shirt/tank top & black pants. i was going to wear white pants, but i wore them to work this week & they were in the hamper.

our Bible story is about joseph & his "rainbow" coat.

we always ALWAYS use either crayons or markers & that can be SO SO boring sometimes.

so what do we i decide to do???

PAINT!!!

WITH TEMPERA PAINT!!!!

but i'm smart, so i tell everyone they MUST wear a paint smock. everyone agrees except brian.

the 2 year old!

"well, brian, if you don't wear a paint smock, you can't paint."

"NO!"

i try to put one on him, he runs to the other side of the room. i chase him. "NO!"

ok. "brian, you can't paint, but you have to come outside with us."

"NO!"

"you can be the line leader."

"OK"

"do you want to put on a paint smock?"

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

well, to make a long story short --- 5 kids & 1 teacher dressed in a lacy white t-shirt/tank top managed to paint a picture of joseph's rainbow coat while one 2 year old sat quietly next to us holding a dry paint brush (it was the most well behaved i have ever seen a 2 year old!!!!!)

AND

we managed to NOT GET ANY PAINT ANYWHERE EXCEPT ON THE PAPER WHERE IT SHOULD BE!!!! no one got any on themselves or others, no one got any on their clothes (we had one little dribble on a paint smock, but that was because the little girl sneezed & brushed her brush on her smock). no one stepped into the paint, no one dribbled paint on the sidewalk. the kids were the most well behaved i've ever seen them!! everyone helped carry things back into the building.

HOWEVER, the teacher did get paint on the door jam when carrying the lifesized picture back into the classroom & a mom almost got paint on her white skirt when she came to pick up her child!!!!

but the lacy white t-shirt/tank top SURVIVED!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it might be awhile before we attempt this again --- don't want to push our luck!!!!!!

i'm "one of those" moms!!

i'm one of those moms that can do everything.......i like being able to do pretty much whatever i set my mind to. i'm very blessed that God has given me talents. i love being able to take something (or nothing) & make something or something else out of it.

i plan to do THAT with THIS:

yup - that's an old cast iron sink sitting in my garage (i need to clean that garage! any of you other moms want to do that for me?!?!) and boy, is that sucker heavy!!!!

can't tell ya what i'm gonna do with that sink, but one of my very talented friends has an idea & she asked me to help her. (she must have seen that "ecard" before i did!!!!) don't know when we'll get around to our project, but you can be sure there will be a circular saw involved! a man, maybe not.

the past couple weeks have gone by so fast!! i've been busy with things for the ladies' tea at church & next on the agenda is VBS. spent yesterday in the virgin islands & the bahamas - was gonna do that again today, but it's POURING.....so i guess i'll go clean up the craft room so i can work on some projects & mess it up again!!!!

take care & i'll be back soon............hopefully with something "important" so say!!!

miscellaneous monday stuff

it's been awhile since i did miscellaneous monday stuff.............

*laurie came over tonight & we had dinner & made decorations for the ladies' tea at church

*then we watched a sam elliott movie - "the quick & the dead" (we were in a "shirtless sam elliott mood"!!)

(sorry, girls. that's all you get - savin' the rest for ME!!)

*speaking of sam elliott......i was SOOOO MAD at him the other night!!!!! i stopped at "movie exchange" on westheimer the other day & i found one of his older movies that i didn't have yet, "molly & lawless john". i could have slapped him!!!! first of all, it was an older movie & he's got dark hair - that's ok, but i sure like him with a little grey - but he had NO mustache!!! i love his mustache. sam elliott without a mustache is just no good! second, he was a mean CREEP!!!! he treated the woman in the movie horribly & he admitted it!!!! one of his lines is "*bleep bleep woman! i don't want you! i'm only using you to save my a$$!" "you're not much, but you're better than nothin'." he says & does a lot of other nasty mean things to her - makes her get off the horse & walk through the snow in the middle of nowhere carrying a little orphaned indian baby & he LEAVES them!!! but she loves him!! in the end, she wins & i was glad for her, but hey lady! that's MY sam elliott you just killed!!!!!!!! i cried! i hate it when MY MAN dies in his movies!!! even though i was madder than a hornet at him, i didn't want him to die!!!!

*stephanie over at "the cozy old farmhouse" posted this picture from a cabin where she & her husband went to celebrate their 10th anniversary.......isn't this the cutest little thing you ever saw?!?!?!?!!!

i SO want to do this!!!!! i'm on the lookout for an old watering can now!!!!! and i love the tin shower walls!!! it'd be like rain on a tin roof every time you took a shower!!!! LOVE IT!!!!!

*tomorrow night's "stampin' with doris (&nu) night" & wednesday i have off for the 4th. i'm going to go antiqueing!!! maybe i'll find that watering can!

.....or a man who can use a weed eater!!!!!
